What does the Marketing Specialist do?

Marketing Specialist is an entry-level position in the marketing department. The role is by nature relatively generalist, acting as the right hand of the Marketing Manager. Depending on the strengths of the Marketing Specialist this position may be oriented more towards content creation (presentations, editorial, blog articles, product documentation, documentation localisation), graphic design or video editing, digital marketing and advertising (SEO, social media advertising, lead generation), or event coordination (tradeshows, conferences, product launches).

What does the future hold for Marketing Specialists?

Marketing department generate more and more data. Marketing Specialists will increasingly be required to be very agile in the way they manipulate data. This starts with having in-depth understanding of the CRM concepts and its potential connectivity to external ecosystem platforms in order to perform automated tasks and alleviate manual reporting works (this include Marketing automation platforms, connectivity apps such as Zapier, webhooks or API for example).

Marketing Specialists may also be required to monitor Marketing pipeline performance and even Sales pipeline performance. In the past, this task was performed with manual Excel data crunching. More and more the ability to design meaningful dashboards is embedded into CRM or automation platforms themselves, or can be easily be built in tools such as Tableau or Power BI. Training the Marketing Specialists on your platform of choice will enable your company to create consistent reporting while ultimately free the time of the Marketing Specialist to perform more value-added tasks.
